Wound healing ... latest research - then essential oils could help.

Jan 11, 2020

Essential oils are pure and natural compounds which occur in plants. They can be extracted from different parts of the living plant by different methods and have been used for millennia worldwide for medicinal purposes.

Recent research at "chemical compound level shows improved wound healing in the skin". The chemical compound responsible for this is found in lavender, ylang ylang, rosemary and black pepper", amongst other oils. There is also the possibility of reduced quantities of scarring which would tend to suggest a more full recovery, as soft tissue flexibility, elasticity and general movement would be less restricted. (Koyama et al. 2019 )We already know that scar adhesions restrict movement of #softtissue including #fascia.
Essential oil use when particularly;applied to the skin, can safely be carried out by a qualified Aromatherapist. Most essential oils have a degree of toxicity and for this reason appropriate application methods and dilutions can be selected by a professional. Special care must also be taken during pregnancy.
Lavandula Angustifolia (True Lavender) is one such essential oil which in very small doses may be applied directly to the skin. Although it is primarily regarded as an essential oil with a soothing aroma and often used as a sleeping aid; used in large undiluted quantities, it becomes stimulatory to the nervous system thus negating it's relaxation and calming properties.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) is a commonly used culinary herb. Oil extraction from it's flowers is known to have stimulatory, antiseptic and preservative chemical properties. Before rushing off to bathe any wounds you may have in over the counter essential oils, the research was conducted with oil of a specific purity and quantity of dilution.
